Questions Frequently Asked By Agents about the GLBA Privacy Notices
Why do I have to give my customers the privacy notice at the time of application if Foremost is including the notice with new business and renewals?
Since the taking of an application usually marks the start of a customer relationship, we ask you to provide the customer with a copy of Foremost's Privacy Notice at that time.
Sometimes I talk with customers face-to-face, but other times I may transact business over the phone or by mail. How do I provide copies of the notice in all these situations?
Recognizing that you do business with customers in these various ways, we recommend you follow these procedures:
- When meeting face-to-face with your customer , please give the customer a copy of Foremost's Privacy Notice along with the application. You may make copies from the enclosed notice, or download copies from ForemostSTAR.com above.
- When transacting business over the phone, you must obtain the customer's consent to receive the notice. The conversation might go as follows:
"Foremost treats the information we collect about you as confidential. We'd like to enclose a Privacy Notice when we send your policy. This notice explains Foremost's privacy practices. Will this be okay?"
(Please Note : If the customer responds with "yes," you may issue the policy. If the answer is "no," please explain to the customer that the notice contains important information for their benefit. If they do not agree to receive the notice with the policy, a policy cannot be issued.) - When sending an application to a customer through the mail, please enclose the Foremost Privacy Notice.
Where can I find out more about the actual Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act?
You might check with your local library, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or your congressman. You can reach the FTC toll-free at 1-877-FTC-Help (877-382-4357), or write them at FTC Consumer Response Center, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Room 130, Washington DC 20580.
