Good Data Security Habits
Business information is the lifeblood of our economy in the 21st century. No modern company can operate without it.
Here at Foremost, we place a high value on data security at all levels—from the biggest mainframe computer to the smallest desktop device. To ensure the integrity of your data and our systems, we use a wide variety of security methods and technologies.
That's one side of the equation. The other side requires your cooperation and constant vigilance. As a Foremost agent, you're legally responsible for the proper use of your ForemostSTAR user names and passwords.
To help you and your staff protect these valuable assets, we've prepared the following list of security guidelines. Please share this information with anyone in your office who uses ForemostSTAR. Don't hesitate to contact the ForemostSTAR Help Desk by phone (800-528-5995) if you have any other questions or concerns.
Routine security habits
- Only licensed and appointed Foremost insurance agents and licensed Foremost CSRs are allowed to use the ForemostSTAR site.
- Never let your customers, vendors, suppliers or any other people use ForemostSTAR
- Always select a password that isn't easy to guess. Nonsense words and phrases often work the best. (Passwords must be 7-8 characters, including at least one alpha character and at least one numeric digit).
- Don't use a password that's based on some obvious fact about your life. Examples of bad passwords could include your birthdate, first name, last name, any family names, wedding date, Social Security number, home address or license plate number.
- Don't write down your password and user name unless absolutely necessary. If you must write these down, put the information in a locked desk or other safe location that isn't accessible to others. If you forget your password use the "forgot your password" link on ForemostSTAR's log in page.
- Never e-mail your user name or password to anyone for any reason.
- If you have any reason to believe that someone else has access to your password, call the ForemostSTAR Help Desk at 800-528-5995 for assistance.
- If someone in your office leaves the agency, call the ForemostSTAR Help Desk immediately at 800-528-5995 so we can make the necessary security changes.
- Make sure to log out of ForemostSTAR if you'll be away from your desk (e.g., at lunch or at the end of the day), or if you are not going to be using it.
- Your password will expire every 178 days, at which time you'll be prompted to enter a new password. This new password must be different from the current one, and different from the previous 32 passwords that were used.
Other security issues
ForemostSTAR is a secure site designed for authorized agents like you. All transaction information is automatically encrypted when it travels over the Internet between your computer and our site. We also monitor the site to detect any unusual behavior. We're committed to providing you with a secure experience that you can depend on every day.
All ForemostSTAR agencies designate a challenge question. We use this information to verify your identity if someone in your office forgets a password. Never share the challenge question information with outsiders.
In the real world, computers sometimes crash. That's why we back-up ForemostSTAR data frequently throughout the day. We also recommend that you save your data every time you finish a transaction. You do this by pressing "save" at the bottom of the mobile home or specialty dwelling pages, where you will find additional navigation links. Whenever you receive a reference number or policy number, all data has been saved on the Foremost system. The system is backed up frequently during the day.
Thank you for your commitment to strong data security.
